RV DIY: Installing an RV Bathtub

Given that the space inside an RV is limited, installing an RV can become arduous. There are several things to consider before taking on this DIY project which are:
Available floor space for an RV bathtub
Be realistic with the size of your preferred bathtub. It is crucial to measure accurately.
Type of available rv bathtub Canada
Canvass different types and sizes of available RV bathtubs in Canada. Buy from a legitimate RV parts shop. This would help you determine the bathtub that will match your RV.
Grey and Black water tanks in relation to the bathtub
Familiarize yourself with the positioning of the tanks below so as to place the bathtub closest to the grey water tank. If it can't be directly above the grey water tank, then you must plan carefully on how the drainage be incorporated in the plan.

RV Bathtub Installation
1.    Shut the water supply first.
Of course, you do not want to be sprayed with water while doing this, right? Prepare yourself since the water will be turned off for the whole RV until the installation is complete.
2.    Start disassembling the shower curtain and other plumbing fixtures.
Shower heads, faucets and shower curtain rods are to be removed as to have more space for movement and prevent any damage to them.
3.    Remove the tub surround before tackling the tub.
Unfortunately, salvaging the tub surround without cracking it may be an impossible task. It is better to completely replace the surround so as to perfectly match the tub.
4.    Disengage the drain system connected to the tub.
Below the tub, disconnect the drain pipe to free the tub. Be careful not to cause any damage to the pipes.
5.    Release the tub from the retainer strip.
A thin piece of metal is usually found on most RV bathtub Canada. It is used to keep the bathtub in place.
6.    Lift the tub out of the way.
The old tub needs to come out at this point to prepare the drain system for the new tub.
7.    Affix the new drain while reseating the new tub.
Carefully, reattach the drain pipe to the new drain and reseat the new tub in place.
8.    Weigh down the tub and stabilize it.
Once reseated, weigh down the tub on all corners to ensure that a stable base is established.
9.    Build the enclosure around the bathtub.
The tub enclosure is ready to be constructed once the tub has been stabilized. Start from the top side panels and walls before tackling the base boards.
10. Reattach the plumbing fixtures and shower curtain.
The plumbing fixtures and curtain rods can now be returned to their proper places. Make sure that all fixtures are free from any damages before reattaching.
11. Generously seal all the seams especially around the drain.
Silicone seals are usually used to seal the seams of the tub. Follow the instructions indicated on the packaging before proceeding.
12. Inspect the tub for any leaks.
Open the water supply and gently open each faucet and shower head to check if there are any leaks visible. The drain should be check for any leaks too. Leaks are to be addressed as soon as possible to avoid bigger damages.

DIY projects such as this are easy when you have researched and understood the procedures to be done. And soon you’ll be remodelling your whole RV in no time!
