The Convenience of Using An RV Cooktop

A cooktop is what you refer as a drop-in unit, which provides many functions. Unlike a range, a cooktop does not have an oven below. This gives you more storage space in your motor home. An RV cooktop has its controls and surface on the countertop.

Its design enables it to sit completely on top of the countertop. Considering that they are drop-in, it eliminates the need to open the door to an oven. It offers a little more flexibility as to where you can place your cooktop in the RV.

Gas vs. Electric vs. Induction

The most common types of cooktops are gas versions, while electric cooktops are the practical choice for many. But, induction cooktops are becoming popular in recent years. Provided below is an overview of each type of RV cooktop.

·         Gas Cooktop. It is the most popular type of cooktop that people use in their RVs. It gives you better temperature control, can heat up quickly, and does not cost as much to use. But you need to install a gas line before you can operate it, which makes the initial a bit higher.

·         Electric Cooktop. When you want an affordable type of cooktop for your RV, an electric cooktop is an ideal choice. But remember that they can take a while to heat up. You also have no full control over the temperature compared to other cooktops. Also, there may be a slight increase in your energy bills, as you are using electricity to cook. Coil cooktops can be difficult to clean, while smoothtop models are easy to clean.

·         Induction Cooktop. This appliance is the safest, fastest, and the most accurate with temperatures. It uses a different way of cooking, which does not heat the surface, thus reducing the likelihood of burning yourself. However, they are a bit more expensive to purchase and you also need to get new cookware to be able to use it.

Sizing

Cooktops come in popular sizes of 30 and 36 inches. But, they are available several sizes. You can find portable cooktops with 10 to 12 inches of cooking surface. The bigger units typically come in 48 inches. You can also find commercial units in 60 inches. As long as you can meet the electrical and gas requirements to make the appliance work, you can use a cooktop in your RV. Measure the appliance, cut a hole in the counter, and place the cooktop in.

The knobs you use to control the RV cooktop are found on top of the unit. Usually, they are found near the sides of the grates or in the front. You can locate them either split among the sides near the grate or all on one side. This kind of design makes it a safe choice as children will not be able to reach the knobs and turn the appliance on accidentally. The top design of the device varies depending on the brand and model. They all provide several cooking grates and surfaces.
